Computer switches to Desktop every half hour

Hey guys,

My Windows 7 computer has recently started switching to the desktop, with a 'ping!' sound, at half past and on the hour! I assume it is some software attempting to automatically update and coming up against an error.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be, and/or how I could find out what it is?

try checking you applications logs, it may be logging something in there.

Do you have the latest version of AVG - think that was the package - I believe there was reports of it doing this.

Yes I do have the latest version of AVG, and I'm not certain but I do think the timeframes match as to when this started happening. Is there a solution to this problem other than uninstall AVG?

get rid of avg and try microsofts av

Windows 7 comes with a firewall, but windows doesn't offer an antivirus program. isn't that right?

You can download and install microsoft secruity essentials which is good and free.
