Following on from my Tagan woes thread, my computer is sort of behaving itself. It however keep switching itself back on after ive turned it off to go to bed for the night. Ive checked all the wake on LAN settings, reboot after AC failure settings etc. Anyone have any suggestions as to why it might be doing this? Im having to switch it off at the back of the PSU to keep it off.

Sticky power button ?

Nope, stripped it all down so its not even in a case now.

power surge?

Initially thought this when the computer kept switching itself off randomly, but its stopped doing that now. But I hightly doubt it, as it does it EVERY time I switch my pc off. I turn it off, then 10-20 seconds later, it boots back up again.

Maybe a ghost?

Or someone playing a practical joke on you by remotly turning it on somehow :D

Seems strange to happen if its afetr 10 to 20 secs, if it was straight away then I would suggest its a dirty switch connection on the MB.

But with the delay it seems thats unlikely.

You blown any dust etc off the board to ensure theres nothing resting on it and shorting out part of it and starting it up?

Yup. As I say ive stripped the whole rig to pieces and put it all back together on my desk. Theres deffinately nothing shorting the powerswitch pins on the motherboard, as I have to manually short them to get it back up and running. Oh, and thats another point.. when I want the computer back on, i can flick the PSU power switch to on, and it doesn't boot itself up. It only seems to want to do it after ive switched it off. And when I say 10-20 seconds, its as long as it takes for the fans to stop spinning etc.

Dont laugh too much, but we had this issue a few weeks ago.

It happened when we went to currys and bought a wireless router for a NTL cable box. Plugged it in, set up the software, off it went. Turned off the main PC wired into it, and within 5-25 mins the PC powered back up. The only way around it i have found is by switching the plug from the router to another bank of sockets, daft i know, but it worked!

Never found a way round it but that one.

So have you added any new hardware?

How's about the other wake up events!... PS2 or even USB (summut might be resting on the keyboard!!... or the mouse might be a bit flakey!!)... My board (NF8-V2) has settings in the BIOS and jumpers on the board (near the USB/PS2) to set/unset this!!..

I'll have a look at this when I get home. :)

Actually, this sort of reminds me of a problem I encountered a few weeks ago.

The customer was shutting the computer down, but when they came downstairs in the morning, the computer was switched on. The son in the family kept getting a right ear full because the mother thought he was up all night playing games.

As it happens, the computer was booting up from mouse movement, so when the customer came bumping down stairs, it was shaking the mouse, and thus booting the computer :D

I think we ended up disabling something in the BIOS, but this was weeks ago, and I'm lucky to remember last week :P

Nope, not that. All wakeup events are off. :(

I know this really isn't helpful, but my friend has the exact same problem! He's tried everything, and he temporarily stopped it by taking his sound card out... but he needs his sound card, so that wasn't a permanent option. He just switches it off at the back after shutting down before it gets a chance to turn back on :D

Yeah, thats what im doing at the moment, but im getting watercooling and phase cooling soon, and want the actual rig to be behaving itself before then, as if it really falls to pieces, I don't want to have to drain the loop etc.

Well if it's not shorting.......hmmm, perhaps it's the motherboard thats had it? Only thing I can think of.

Yeah, ive come to the same conclusion tbh. Im looking at getting a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert off MM to replace it. Fingers crossed thats the problem.
