All mobile masts are down in my area and I need to make several phone calls, Is there any software that allows phone calls from a computer ? I tried Skype but Microsoft in their infinite non wisdom has removed this feature.

No landline but what is wifi calling ? I'm not familiar with that.
Most modern phones will support calling via a WiFi connection instead of using the mobile network. It might need activating will require support from your phone, your provider and your ISP though. What phone, mobile network and broadband ISP are you using?

Currently have an iphone 8, I'm on a 1Gig line with EE and the sim is through them too. I've had a look in the phone settings but cannot see wifi calling, guessing my phone is too old.

Ok I'm 99.9% sure your iPhone 8 won't work. If it's calls to a specific person you can voice call through WhatsApp?

To enable whatsapp I need to register and to register I need the code they send to the phone and it can't be received because there's no signal :D

Who would've thought in 2025 making a simple phone call would be so difficult :p

I found this, but I can't vouch for it:

Doesn't work sadly, Plans are not selectable and "Free" isn't really a thing annoyingly.

Maybe some of these will work, I can't vouch for any of them:

On iPhone 8 the Wi-Fi Calling setting is under Settings > Mobile Data.

I have an iPhone 8 and with that enabled I’ve been able to make normal phone calls when networks go down.

Go to a phone box! If you can (a) find one (b) find one not vandalised

Council took them all away years ago.

Not on mine sadly, Likely a limitation of the carrier I'm with.

The only other thing you could try to activate WhatsApp, is travelling to an area with enough signal to receive a text message with your verification code.

I've been on EE for years and they do have WiFi calling, in fact with them specifically it defaults to it when I'm on WiFi. Had this on a OnePlus phone and a couple of Pixels. Only thing I can think of is maybe they don't support the 8 for it.

FYI WiFi calling doesn't depend on the ISP you're with, just the mobile network provider and phone.

Not only do they have it, they were the first network to use WiFi calling iirc. I'm sure I remember some sort of calling on the underground pitch.

This was my first thought too. Always noticed this when getting calls at home - broadband is deffo not EE, so assumed it was setup / managed by EE. Using a pixel 7 and was the same on all of my OnePlus models

Should be under Settings > Phone > Calls > WiFi Calling.

I have enabled on my iPhone 7 with an Orange France SIM.

It’s possible that EE’s iPhone Carrier Bundle has it disabled.
