i just came home and turned of the computer after clicking profile it takes ages to load eventually comes onto desktop with everything gone...background etc. there is still a lot of files and i can get onto internet...

a bit of a vague question really - what's loading with wndows?
What is the hardware?
Have you checked the drives are working ok (DMA mode, no SMART warnings), and your memory is still registering correctly.

nope i really wouldn't know where to begin...i have had random problems with this harddrive in the past and its included having to formatt a lot etc.

i'm guessing a formatt and reinstallation will fix it :/

if it was a memory problem it wouldn't effect files would it? i'd say corrupt HD or virus

ive just noticed in 'local disk' is a txt file called 'error'

never seen this before

if the drive has been problematic in the past then the chances are reformatting it and reinstalling isn't going to sort it out in the long term and i would be very wary of using the drive if it was giving problems.

I would suggest downloading and running the manufacturers test utilities for the drive to try and see if that is indeed the cause of the problem.
