So i woke up this morning (about 08:30) to see that my computer had turned itself on at 08:14 this morning. It was definitely off last night and the event viewer shows that it was definitely shut down and definitely turned on at 08:14.

How does this happened? It never has before.

It is running on Windows 7 64 bit.

Any scheduled tasks running in task scheduler?

Could be power on network there is a special packet that can switch on your computer if the BIOS is set to allow it to happen... forgot the name of it...

Any of clocks flashing? Could have been a quick power outage. Can't think of much else, wouldn't have tried to do an update or backup while off.

We only have one clock which is on the boiler timer and that is fine so i presume no poweroutages.

Nothing that i can see in the task scheduler points to it either and the PC was definitely off (not hibernating/sleeping)

I have had this pc set up 2 years+ and this has never happened before.

There is a ton of jokes that have been beaten to death by that thread title :p

However, go into your bios and check for any power on features, Wake up on lan, mouse, usb etc etc.

I had this problem, my External HDD would randomly spin for whatever reason and turn wake the PC up from sleep.
