My computer is turning back on after i shut it down.

I cant think what the problem is, as i have checked all cables and everything is fine.

Is there something simple i have overlooked?

Many thanks

Go to control panel > performance and maintenance > power options > advanced. What does it say in the box for power buttons? Also is this a recent problem or new build/upgrade?

For power buttons it says shut down.

The power button works as normal, one press and windows shuts down, hold it and it turns off quickly.

This is quite a recent problem, i have just been ignoring it for a few months.

I have upgraded with watercooling, new graphics card and done quite a lot of tinkering since.

Ill have a good look over my connections again to check.

Cheers

I had the same problem about a year a go, caused by a faulty TV card.

If you have a TV card, try plugging the power switch directly into the motherboard.

Quite a few years ago I had problems with my PC never wanting to switch off because of a faulty firewire card. Hope that helps.

My Gigabyte board also randomly switches back on a few minutes after it's shut down. I've never managed to figure out why it does it.

I had this problem on a recent pc i built, also happened to be using a gigabyte board and had a freeview card, in the bios i disabled "PME Event Wake Up" under power management which did the trick.

I dont have any additional hardware installed (bar the graphics card)

The motherboard does have wifi, so i might have a look through the bios for auto start options.

Cheers for all the advice!
