Fairly simple question but it's thoroughly confused me. If I tap it, gently kick it, or probably if I kicked it hard, it immediately turns off.

Computer is under my desk at the moment and it turning off partway through work is annoying me no end. Any ideas?

Stock speeds, graphics under water but the rest on air (stock cooler). Case is the akasa eclipse, current guess is it shorts when tapped and turns off as a safety measure. Cannot find anywhere this could be happening though.

Anyone met something similar/have any ideas?

Wiggle the main motherboard connector from the psu, see if it does it. The copper connectors often spread over time / insertions. If it is, easy enough to close them up with a pin or similar.

You were right. The connector associated with the green wire had opened up too much, and now I've closed it with a drawing pin all is well. It now survives kicks and having the connector wiggled. I shall take more care when bleeding the loop in future, this was clearly self inflicted. Thank you

Motherboard too low on the stand offs, probably shorting on the back of the CPU socket when moved. Seen it happen before. Kick lighter, or raise board up on plastic washers.

Could well have been it. I guess this can only happen if the motherboard or the case fail to follow atx spec, however it would be the next thing I checked after the above. Reminds me that I need to take care when I put the cpu bracket on next, so should avoid similar issues in future. Thanks

Cheers all, it wasn't as obscure as I feared :)

edit: not kicking it would work too, but the fault worried me
