Hello All,

I have been debating few a good 3 months+ now what to upgrade in my system.

the specs of my current system is

Monitor: LG 22EA63V 22" IPS LED

Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

Processor: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)

Memory: Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMP6GX3M3A1600C7)

Graphics Card: Radeon HD 5830

Sound Card: on Board

Hard Drive: Samsung Evo 256GB SSD

my thinking is to upgrade the GPU but I have also noticed that the newer I5's rate higher than my current CPU as my current I7 is getting a bit old now.

I mainly use my PC for gaming and was thinking of getting this GPU

my budget is about £260 but debating weather I should keep my current CPU and get a newer GPU or stick with my current GPU and upgrade the GPU (CPU Bundle or something), other option is to get a cheaper GPU and add some more ram (another 6GB) to the system.

the games I mainly play are

Counter Strike Global Offensive
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
Dark Souls 2
All the Lego games
plants vs Zombies

newer games I currently considering buying are

Titan Fall
Call Of Duty Advance Warfare

I am open to other options to get the best bang for my money, I don't normally get the spare money to upgrade my PC so its been done gradually over time so after this I don't know when the next time I would be able to upgrade my system

thanks a lot!

IMO your i7 is still a fine CPU, and assuming you haven't overclocked it, do that. It will give that extra bit of oomph which you should definitely notice.
Bar the GPU the rest of the system will still play games you suggested very well, and 6Gb of RAM is still quite ample. AW is the only properly intensive game in your list, the rest a GTX970 will eat up.

Assuming you've not got an aftermarket CPU cooler then one below would be good to cool it down, plus RIGHT NOW a GTX970 is on offer at a frankly ridiculous price.

YOUR BASKET
1 x GALAX GeForce GTX 970 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - OEM (97NPH6DT6XTZ) £239.99
1 x Raijintek Themis Black Heatpipe CPU Cooler PWM - 120mm £19.99
Total : £269.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Oh right, that's fine then. I don't think you'll see that much of an improvement if you decided to swap out your board & CPU for a new i7, it would be expensive and IMO not worth it considering your budget.

A 970 right now would be your best bet; on par with a 290 for performance but it's far more efficient per watt and runs cooler & quieter (depending on cooling solution). It would really give your system a new lease of life.

thanks for that, over the years i have been upgrading parts and the GPU is the last thing of my old system.

ill get the 970 :)
