Computer Upgrade

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade my existing motherboard and processor etc, the current machine has a spec of :

Intel Quad core Q8200 @ 2.33 Ghz
Asus P5N-D Motherboard
4 gig of Ram
ATI Radeon HD 6950

The problem I am having i believe is down to my cpu & feel its not up to speed with my graphics card. Id like to use the computer for streaming & when playing games etc the streaming just cant cope.

Also I have another issue with my graphics which keep crashing all the time when playing some games or watching streams or youtube. I get an error saying that the Display driver has recovered from an error - I've already sent the card back but they have sent it back to me saying that there are no faults so thought it might be an incompatability issue with my motherboard but havent been able to find anything about it online.

Ideally I would like to upgrade to an i7 but not sure what i would need, im also not sure on the budget needed but maybe £300-£500 I have all the rest of the peripherals etc case hard drives optical drives so probably would just need the motherboard cpu and possibly memory.

is there a particular reason you want to go for an i7, are you looking to do things that will make use of the hyper threading ?

Do you have a cooler you can use on the 1155 motherboard, if not have a look at the gelid or the corsair a50.

There wasnt a specific reason why I wanted an i7 a few friends of mine have i7 machines with similar graphics if not lower than mine & their systems outperform mine by quite a bit.

If theres something equal to an i7 I am open to suggestions.
