Computer Will not Boot on Defaults Unless I Increase the v core Voltage.

MB: GA 970A-UD3
CPU: FX-6300
CPU COOLER: Arctic Freezer xtreme Rev 2.0
RAM : Patriot 8GB X2 1600MHZ CL9


Just put together a new build and I'm having issues with it freezing. The problem is unless I increase the vcore voltage from the default 'auto' setting to 1.45 the computer freezes right after I log in.
The CPU at stock should run at 3.5GHZ and turbo to 4.1GHZ on demand but I've only ever seen it go as high 3.8GHZ. My temperatures are fine on idle I get between 18-25 degrees and on load around 45 degrees MAX.
When I first put the build together a few days back I was running it at 4.5GHZ with a vcore of around 1.45 but it didn't seem too stable so I put it back to default then the problems started.
I've reset the BIOS twice by removing the battery it seems to boot on default settings after that but if i attempt an overclock it will stop booting on default settings.

I dont think its a PSU voltage issue as I was using the same PSU on my previous build and it ran my Q8300 overclocked from 2.5GHZ to 3.2GHZ fine at 1.45v.

I've also done a bit of searching and people seem to easily overclock this CPU to 4.1 and run it stable without even increasing the vcore. Yet mine wont boot on stock.

I think maybe the motherboard could be dropping the voltages too low when the CPU needs it..... any suggestions?

I've also tried running with one RAM stick, it didn't make a difference and tried different graphics cards.

I'm just wondering if the bios default settings are incorrect for the cpu.

Two possibilities I can think of;

Mobo is not reporting the correct voltages. Test with another chip?

Or could you test the chip on another board? I guess if its a bad chip it will be unstable at its default volts.

If you bought it recently you could send it back as faulty and it would be tested their end.

Try turning off C1E in the bios this should stop its auto downclocking(voltage/multiplier) when not under stress. Might solve the issue.

I just bought the parts and and put them together a week ago I've tried disabling C1E and C6E neither of them made any difference. The BIOS version is apparently the latest. This is my first AMD build in a while so I don't have any other AM3+ motherboards around for me to test with.

I will try to re-flash the BIOS and post the results.
 
Did you check to see if there where are bent/missing pins/contacts on mobo/cpu?

Where do you live Ive got a spare board if your nearby.

if the parts were bought from ocuk they're brilliant for cs so start a thread in the customer service section and they'll tell you what to do next.

Do you have an old amd cpu? AM3+ is backwards compatible so at least you could prove the mobo.

The CPU had no bent pins and the AMD CPU's i have are too old to work with socket AM3+.
 
I can only suggest contacting ocuk (if you ordered through them).

They'll be in a better posistion to help you. I cannot find a problem like this via my google searches and I've exhausted what little knowledge I have sorry.

If thats ok then only way to be sure is try cpu in another board.

If it wont run at stock vcore stable in that board either then its a faulty cpu.

Was in similar position with previous 2600K cpu...wasnt stable at any vcore.
Tested everything with swapping out for spare parts and came to conclusion it was either mb or cpu. After mb swap i knew it was cpu and RMA time

1.45v is quite a high voltage for that cpu is it not?

Thats what damaged mine....benching at 5.5GHz at high volts...temps were fine but cpu just degraded overnight to point where i couldn't get it to boot into windows no matter what.

It turned out to be a faulty CPU. I ended up sending both the motherboard and CPU back to ****** and they sent me a new cpu. Since then I've been running at 4.5ghz with no problems.
