Hi, yesterday afternoon I got back home and connected my pc a I had been travelling with it over the weekend. I have now come to he problem that it just won't boot up - (post) it comes on for about 4- seconds and DOESNT beep and then just turns itself of. I have tried taking the gfx unit and still doesn't work, also tried disconnecting the cd drive and hard drive at the same time and still no luck. I have also just taken out all the ram and it still just switches itself of - (and have also tried the ram in different slots) - I've also noticed though that when I plug the power supply in and turn on from the back of the computer- it just starts up itself and I don't have to press the front power button - (but then it just turns off again). - I don't think it's a psu problem because if a power plug from the motherboard it stays on (but doesn't post)

I'm so worried that I'm goin to loose the data on my pc. - the computer is a custom built gaming pc and I has been working fine for the last year now. Please can someone help me- I would appreciate it so much

thanks
james

Well this does sound like a motherboard / RAM issue rather than a hard drive issue so dont worry about losing the data. You will be able to recover it by plugging the drives into another computer / getting a usb enclosure for them.

It sounds like the motherboard has had it. Is there any way to test the cpu & ram in another pc to make sure its definitely the mobo.

+ Your data should be fine, its nothing to do with your hard drive :)
