I have a problem with the computer where I suspect the power button on the case is faulty, as it's been like this for a while now.... before if I pressed the power button 20 - 30 times it would eventualy boot and perform normally coupled with pulling the power lead in and out. Like as if it needed a surge of power before it could boot. It's been like this for at least 3 months, once I get the computer to boot the computer is fine.

Now it seems as if the button has completely gone, I have tried booting the computer using the power button on the main board, but nothing happens ... so I cannot confirm whether the main board has gone as I have never used the power button on the main board before.

As there are 2 wires entering the main power switch, does anyone know what voltage is running through them and ultimately would it be safe cutting the wires ... and then using a conductor such as a screwdriver to create a connection and initialise the boot??

Well there is power going to the mobo as the power lights are on, and I shut it down a couple of hours ago to instal a few updades, and now it wont go back on... its been doing this for a while now. Will give the screwdriver a go, cant imagine theres a serious problem, was working faultlessly couple of hours ago.
