HI.

Changing out my old GPU, a GEforce 1081 Ti for a new Intel ARC B580.
Motherboard is a MSI Z490-A PRO, power supply is 850W, Windows 10.

In the past I have just removed the old card, put the new one in and rebooted, then installed new drivers.

That didn't happen this time, I get the BIOS logo flash on the screen and then the computer stops, it doesn't boot into Windows. I can press 'delete' and get into the BIOS though so something is working.........

I then updated the BIOS, it was a bit old. No improvement. However if I remove the power from the GPU the computer does boot into Windows, I can hear that, there is just nothing on the screen of course.

I did a BIOS reset, removing the power cord, the onboard battery etc etc.

No improvement. I did notice though that when the computer stops so do the fans on the GPU.

There are no onboard graphics on this motherboard. I have tried all the outputs from the card, no difference. There are a series of LEDs on the motherboard which come on during booting, they go through the same sequence when it fails as when it boots properly.

If I put my old GPU back in everything works as it should.

Any ideas as to what I can try next.

Is you windows 10 updated to the latest version (22H2)? Think this is essential.

Have you removed all traces of the Nvidia driver?

Try 2 seperate power cables for the GPU instead of a daisy chained cable (if that is what you are using now).

Is the card new or 2nd hand?

Sounds like the card is the issue as swapping over the GPUs and the system works again.

Do you have another system you could test the arc in?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes Windows is on 22H2

No I haven't removed the Nvidia driver, I don't think the computer gets that far before it stops, so didn't think drivers would be the problem, but it was on my list to try. To be clear I see the flash of the BIOS logo screen and then that's it.

The power cable, there is only one 8 pin socket on this B580 and I have a cable which comes straight from the power supply to it.

Yes the card is brand new. I do have an email into Overclockers but they say it might be 10 days before I get a response.

I can't try it in another computer it's a long card and it wouldn't go in anything else (small cases) unless I took the whole thing out of it's case.

I think there's a setting in BIOS for Intel cards something like resizable bar. If your mobo doesn't have that option it could be why it isn't booing but old card works.

Put the old card back in, go to the BIOS, and check that REBAR is enabled. You may also need to turn CSM off.

Sorry to all I've been away for a few days.
Anyway thanks all for the info and help.
Just to let you know it is all working now. After trying various things and pulling my hair out I flashed the BIOS again, with the same file as I'd used before and now it all works! Just to confirm Resizeable BAR does need to be enabled.

So not sure what was wrong with the initial flash of the BIOS, after all the old video card still worked as it seemed everything else did, but you live and learn.

Thanks all.

Cant believe no one suggested to DDU the drivers, then swap the cards

Mismatch grahpics drivers can cause all sorts of oddities, also you dont need Resizable Bar for it to boot, not having it on hurts performance but it wont stop it working

Glad to hear you got it sorted. I thought I had a DOA 4070S as I was getting VGA debug LED on first boot. Even after flashing latest bios it still wouldn't boot but it must have just taken time for bios update to take effect as it booted the next time and has been fine since. Sometimes computers just do what they want.

Just an Off-topic question OP have you noticed a difference in performance? I also heard there's a Intel AI app that u can use with the card, have you played with it?
