I've had my rig set up for about a year now with no serious issues at all, but last night the PC crashed and now it wont boot at all. Windows froze up, the windows stopped completely responding so I had to do a hard reboot. Now the system doesnt respond to me pushing the power button at all, and it is still correctly connected to the motherboard. The motherboard power light is also still on.

Does anyone have any thoughts that might be causing this? My spec is as follows:

IP35-E,
Q6600,
8800 GT,
4GB DDR2.

I also had a problem with the system yesterday before this final crash. The machine wouldnt boot past POST, when I reset CMOS it finally did. However, when I reset the jumper I accidentally dropped it in the case.. And couldnt find it to get it out. Is it possible this jumper is some how shorting the motherboard or something similar?

Thanks for any help.

Try basic essentials, ie one memory stick, gpu and 1 hard disc if you have more than one.

If that fails check your PSU by linking pins 13 & 14 on the 24 pin ATX connector, but I would disconnect from all your components and just connect a fan.

Thanks for your help.. In the end stealing the jumper from my IDE CDROM drive and wacking it on the CMOS pins sorted it out.. Havn't opened the box since I made it thought, some serious dust etc. in there I really need to sort out.
