Computer wont let me reformat.....why??

You're having the exact same problems what I had when I changed my CPU & Motherboard.

Even if your bios looks fine - Loading Optimized Defaults in Bios may fix your problem. At least try this so it eliminates this fix, it may seem a simple fix but it worked for me, as I was BSOD during the XP install.
 
Ok well a bit of googling has turned up this in relation to your board:

You don't need to slipstream the JMicron drivers to be able to install XP.
The 6 black SATA ports up front are all delivered by the ICH9R.
The JMicron JMB363 chip supports the two eSATA ports at the back as well as the PATA port.

Could it be your using the wrong ports? Also double check the IDE setting and that either AHCI or RAID are not enabled.
 
Honestly didnt think the drivers were the problem.
This is slowly driving me nuts now, i have no options, as far as i can see everything in the bios is setup ok, but i still cant get to the windows steup menu. Without this i cant do anything.
Only thing i can guess is that the windows disc is faulty... altho it has been used b4 with no problems.
Comp remains a useless lump :(
 
It's not your XP disk, it's a driver issue. Double check your bios settings as I described above and just install XP with the one drive plugged in to the first black sata port.

If I'm reading things correctly then xp will only throw a wobbly about drivers if you're trying to install off the jmicron driven sata ports.

One drive is plugged in, its in the first port, the drive is set to IDE, not AHCI or RAID.
It doesnt seem to have any errors, it just doesnt give me welcome to setup.
As far as i can tell everything is just as u hav said zombie.
 
Ok, got a different CD / DVD drive you can try? I had problems installing windows once, tried my second drive and it worked fine.

Worth a try. And considering you said the disc works fine as you have tried it before....It kinda rules that out, unless you've got some almighty scratch on it all of a sudden :rolleyes:

Have you actually tried installing with an AHCI driver? Cause using AHCI isn't really that different anyway. Just normally extends the amount of available ports you can use.
 
Does it get to the point where it says Repair installation or install etc.

If so. Say repair...

then it will go to a prompt asking for administrator password. Its normally blank so just press enter..

then type format c:

Mine was doing the same the other day until i chose to repair instead of install... allowed me to get to a command prompt
 
Surley you shouldn't be getting a BSOD if your just missing drivers? The disks just wouldn't show up, I think.

Might be a RAM problem, faulty stick/s or not enough voltage on the RAM?

Double check your RAM is getting the correct voltage, if it is. Try intalling with only 1 stick in place. If this all fails try a memtest.
 
Well, in some systems if you try installing without an F6 driver it will blue screen...normally at the point after the O/S disc has loaded the 'default' drivers.

But your RAM suggestion could work as well, everythings worth a try :)
 
Just had this problem with an old socket A rig i am setting up....get the memtest disk out and test the ram. Turns out that my old faithfull mushkin redline doesnt like tight timings any more :(
 
The Blue screen comes after everything when it tries 2 load the dud windows.
I dont get to the screen with repair etc... that is the screen im desperately tryin 2 get 2 lol, it skips it and attempts 2 start windows!!! The BSOD is purely because widows wont work and is not an error during the setup process, its exactly the same error i get if i dont boot off the CD and just try to run the comp. The setup process itself seems 2 do exactly what it should do.... apart from skipping the vital screen.

Will try the RAM just in case, but would imagine a ram problem would manifest itself before it got all the way 2 that point.

Hav cleared CMOS, havent gone all the way back 2 basics, but very close 2.

Hav tried with 2 different disc drives!!
