I’m looking for a bit of advice. As of last week my PC no longer gets to POST when you fire it up. Basically it froze in Windows (7 Pro x64) whilst I popped out for a bit of lunch, thought nothing of it as it done it a week earlier so rebooted and now nothing! – previously it didn’t boot until I had left it off for a minute, however even a days rest makes no difference now.
It fires up as all the system fans/lights come on, the graphics card fans runs, hard disk light pops up and the DVD drive light flashes but then nothing happens. The motherboard CPU power phase lights (MSI P55-GD65) all come on which I assume is good but unfortunately my case (Antec 902) doesn’t have a speaker so I have no beeps to listen too. Both monitors just remain black with them auto switching between inputs looking for a signal before eventually giving up. If I remove the cables from the graphics card the monitors complain of no input so I assume some sort of signal is getting though.
So far I’ve removed half the Ram so that only 2 slots are in use, I’ve removed the sound card, wireless card (Wireless had to be manually reset each boot to connect since that big Windows update a month ago), and have unplugged the DVD drive and one of the 2 hard drives. All USB devices have been detached and the CMOS has been reset.
I have since acquired an old case with a speaker so rebuilt the machine in that to try and get some diagnostic beeps. None! Because the bloomin' thing fired up! Great I thought every things working so put the machine back in the 902 and it went straight back into Windows one first boot. Job done or so I thought. It was working fine for about an hour before it froze and on reboot no POST again!
Before this happened it was a pretty solid machine which almost never crashed even when stressing it with games or video encoding, the system was not overclocked so I don’t think there has been any heat damage.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I'm tearing my hair out as to what this could be.
