Computer won't power on!

Hi,

Well my new computer is all of 12 days old and I went to switch it on tonight and..... nothing! I turned it off last night and it's sat all day not being touched. I removed the case switch and have been using the on-motherboard switch which is also LED lit when there is power to the computer. The LED is off.

Motherboard is Gigabyte Z97X G1 Gaming, brand new with this build running i7-4790K not overclocked.

Tried:
  • Unplugging EVGA 750W G2 PSU, using paperclip (actually a provided bridge plug) the Corsair H80i runs fine, both pump and fans.
  • Plugging in computer again to PSU - Nothing works.
  • Removing all but Motherboard and CPU plugs, including removing fans, SSD etc etc - Nothing.
  • Removing the CPU plug, only having motherboard plug in - Small flash from the on board power switch LED
  • Removing all but 1 stick of RAM (HyperX Fury 4x4GB) - As above.

Where do I go from here? Is PSU or Motherboard shot? I have no opportunity to try another system or PSU sadly at this time.
 
Going to be a ball-ache but I'd take it all out of the case and try again.

If that doesn't work I'm betting either mobo or cpu.
 
So the PC has been running.

What would cause a PC to die ?

Has the heatsink been fitted properly. Over heating the chip would give this problem, would it not ?
 
This is what has confused me! It worked fine at about 23:30 last night, turn it on today, nothing!

Just done a pin-out test of the 24 pin motherboard connector and all of the pins show the correct voltage and are stable, though no load is possible to apply.

I'll re-build it outside of a case and try again.
 
So my motherboard has voltage reading points, labeled: VRIN, VIOD, VSA, VAXG, VIOA, VRING, VDIMM, VCORE.

I can probably work out what a few of those mean, but I'd welcome an insight what they may be. Putting my multimeter across these readouts gave me open voltages on all pins with PSU plugged in and on.

Not sure if this is normal as the system was off, but it may point towards a faulty motherboard?
 
After all of the swearing, cursing, anger and hate last night I gave my PC, I dropped a support email to Gigabyte and they said as a last case scenario I should remove the CMOS battery, wait a few minutes, put it back in and hopefully it should work. I though "rubbish, how can the clock battery cause it to not get any power?"

Lo and behold, here I am typing again on the "dead" PC.

I have no idea how it fixed it, can anyone with superior knowledge inform me how removing the battery (I assume to let all power to the motherboard fade off to reset something) fixed it?

Thankfully no RMAs, no broken stuff, just an odd failure...
 
By removing the CMOS battery, the bios will reset to defaults, removing any over clocks etc, not just the date and time.

Have you tried with no memory installed, to see if you get any beeps codes ?

If it doesn't beep id be inclined to agree that its a system board, or if your very very unlucky the processor.
 
So perhaps in the process of shutting down my BIOS decided to screw itself up?

Working fine now, seems stable, we'll see tomorrow when I turn it on again.
