Well my spare old computer has decided to give up and im not sure why. Was working on it and everything was fine, turned it off and then in the morning turned it on and it came up with the message "Windows Has Failed To Start..." with options to start windows, start windows with last known config, and safe mode. I tried selecting all of these options and the computer starts loading up and then the screen goes blank and it returns to the original window.

Specs:
Celeron 2.6ghz skt 478
Some Intel Motherboard
768 ram (1 256 stick and 1 512 stick)
PCI 9250
Audigy 2
Generic PSU

Anyone Have any idea what could be wrong? Could it of been the heatwave that killed of the pc? temps seemed to be around 63 at load in this weather, and so i took off the side case and the temperatures dropped.

The fact you are making it through POST leads me to believe that it is just a windows corruption rather than a hardware fault. Does sitting in BIOS cause a crash? If not you may have some luck running check disk in the recovery console.

Insert your windows OS disk, boot from it, select “repair previous installation from recovery console” from the setup options. You will then be taken to a black console. Select the windows install you want to repair and enter your administration password to continue, normally this is blank so just hitting enter is fine.

From there run the command

CHKDSK /?

For a full list of commands available to the chkdsk command in the recovery console, you want to select repair any faults which I –think- is /p

so enter the command

CHKDSK C: /p

Sit back, cross your fingers, once its over, remove the cd, type exit in the console and hit enter. At this point cross your toes and hope you make it to desktop.
