So came back tonight from work and tried to fire up the computer.....nothing.

It just wont start or do anything, nothing happens when you hit the on switch.

Ive looked inside and there is a green light on the mobo so it must be getting power (i'm assuming)

I'm totally in the dark as to what it could be. I was playing away on it just fine last night.

I have had some weird things happening over the last few months and some suggestions were the power supply but no one could say for certain and the problems seemed to come and go. Though like i say there is a light on the mobo so could it be the psu?

New psu is costly so i'm hoping not to buy one if its not needed.

Thanks for any help.

What specs have you got? PSU's are not that expensive. Deppending on what you already have, you may be able to get away with a happy go lucky PSU. If you dont want to buy straight away you could always borrow a friends to see if it is a PSU problem.

Post up your specs

Check all the cable connectors. What sometimes happens is a metal insert will come loose or shift. Sometimes that will result in dead PC. Easy to fix.

If not that - then try and borrow a mates PSU and see if that fixes your problem.

Oh and is your 12v connector (either a 4 pin or a 8 pin connector) connected correctly?

The ones i looked at for the same power seem to be about £250. Annoying thing is id probably be a good way to buying a new computer at that price.

Other issue is i dont know anyone with a psu anywhere near that power so cant borrow one to test which is a huge pain as that would solve everything there and then.

I have double checked the wires and nothing seems to be loose or out of place.

The main thing i'm curious about is the fact that if the psu is bust why is there a single light on in the mobo?

Heres the spec:

If it is indeed the psu and i but another would i get away with getting a lower power one. Ive seen a Sapphire 1050W for £140. Would i be able to use that rather than a 1200W?

Also still need to know if the psu can be broke despite the light on the mobo.

Sorry we can't give you a direct answer but it does appear, as already suggested, a faulty PSU.

The PSU may just be supplying enough power to light that LED but not enough to fire up the system. I had a PC in last week with the same problem. Green LED that was ticking ... but no power on the +12v rail.

The only way you'll know for sure is to test it using a multi-meter. Read my guide here:

That should help.
