Gah... so annoyed.
Came back up to uni after a week home. My PC, monitor, external hard disk and a few other things are plugged into a surge protector, and another monitor is plugged straight into the wall.
I always unplug my stuff from the wall when I go home. I came back tonight, plugged my surge protector in, turned it on at the wall, and did the same for my monitor.
I turned my PC on, and it got to the POST screen. It then shut off. Everything else still worked. It will not turn back on.
I tried plugging the PC in directly to the wall to bypass the surge protector, but it still wouldn't turn on. There is a very high pitched whining coming from what seems to be the PSU, and the switch on the PSU is also an LED- it flickers slightly. The PC doesn't act at all when I press the power on, it doesn't begin to start and then cut out, it just does nothing.
I tried also plugging it in to different wall plugs in different parts of the room. Everything else works fine.
I would say it's a safe bet that my PSU is dead- I'm about to order another one, unless anyone else has any ideas? The PSU is a Hiper PSU I bought in 2007, it cost about £160 IIRC. Perhaps it's just given up.
