Hi there,

I am at a wits end with setting up a small network in my room consistiong of my main pc (win 7), an old dell dimension (win xp), and a laptop (win vista). All connected via a 5 port gigabit ethernet switch which is connected to a sky ADSL router, I can get internet on all of the computers through wired.

This is my 1st attempt (please, be kind)! at setting up a network and has been problemiatic to say the least. Firstly the only computers I can see on the network from my main pc are that pc itself and my parents apple imac, the same goes for the other two computers, you can only see that computer itself and the imac, even with all the computers turned on and connected. I have done the network setup wizzard on each computer, turned the firewalls off on all of them, still to no avail. dont know what else I can do.

can you ping to the other computers or use another service to connect like remote desktop

make sure network discovery is on in network and sharing centre in vista. It sounds like there's nothing wrong with the network infrastructure just with 'discovery' for the OS.
