Computers now disappearing from home network.

After fixing the slow transfer rate, now I have another issue. After running the Home Network Setup Wizard, both PC's could be found and shared folders accessed. We decided to have a LAN of C&C3 and everything was going great. However, after about 10 minutes into the game it reports that each player has disconnected.

After going back to the lobby in-game, I can no longer see the other player/pc. Even after restarting both PC's it is still the same.

So, I decided to search for the computer IP's again and try pinging them. From each PC I can find themself. However, not the other PC. It is as if it just "disappears". The only way to get them to see each other again, is to re-run the Wizard and restart.

After re-running the Wizard, both PC's can be seen and so we played C&C3 again. Again, after just getting started the same thing happened and back in the lobby I could only see myself (and the same from the other PC).

Why is this happening? Why one minute can I search and ping both PC's and then soon after they both can't find each other, as if they somehow become hidden?!?!

Thanks for any help! It's so annoying!! :(

Update

Tried installing NetBEAUI protocol, as I read that may help. But it has not.

Then I have tried playing with the Windows Firewall turned off, but the same thing happens. After about 10 minutes of playing, both PC's will be disconnected and unable to see each other on the network.

So I'm guessing either the game is at fault, or my router is the cause?

Which router?

What did you fix to resolve the slow transfer rate?

When you run the wizard your choosing "residential gateway..." yea?

Shouldn't need NetBEAUI. Just TCP/IP, Client for MS Networks, File and Print sharing.

Left the domain name as default?

Can you ping the IP of the other computer when it cuts off ?

It the router assigning IP's OK? Could try static or DHCP.

Check any LAN settings on the router.

Networking is fun!

Lol networking is fun, and tomorrow I get to go to work and do it all over again. Lol my weekend is supposed to be a break not work. :p

Anyways, to fix the slow transfer rate I altered the Broadcast Channel of the router and also changed from WPA to WPA2. Also, I updated the Wireless NIC drivers.

I am using Residential Gateway, yes.

The domain name I changed from MSHOME to simply, HOME, but I did this on both PC's. Would that matter?

When it cuts off, no I cannot ping the other PC's. I have to re-run the Wizard and restart. V.annoying. :(

And yes, sorry, forgot to mention. They are already Static IP's.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Ah one key word in your post... "Wireless".

Could be anything. Good luck, you'll need it.

If it was me (and I'm glad its not, wired F.T.W) start with one PC and check its not losing signal or connection with the router, then the other.
