Hi

This may be a bit of a strange thing to ask, but I am looking to build a new system but want to build one where there is an internal speaker... I have seen HP machines and my mate's old PC with this feature, but how do you wire one up/ get one? which motherboards support this?

Thanks

Yep inside the case.... My mate's PC has it and so does this HP workstation I was working on last week.

How are they set up to play like windows sounds and stuff though? (Not just beeps)

They probably aren't capable of that, for a start you would need something to connect it to, I haven't ever seen a motherboard with an audio output on the inside of the case. It would have to be a specially designed motherboard and speaker.

My sister has an old Compaq desktop with one of these in; its in place of where a front intake fan would be.

ive got 3 old compaq ap550s that have an internal sound speaker that plays music through etc.

You'd be much better off using sound built into a monitor... I can imagine sound from a case sounding pretty bad :p

they exist... most pc's bought as full systems that dont include full speaker systems have them, infact i have a couple of spare internal speakers, just a case of hooking them up to the correct part of the motherboard, assuming the motherboard has the connector.. best bet is to look at one of these pc's and see where its connected up to...

Much easier using a monitor with inbuilt speakers though :D

(i work for an ibm partner, and all pc's we sell have this internal speaker as an optional extra, we have boxes full of them :))

I used to run the loopy ASUS POST Speech Reporter through mine. OMG they do sound awful, all tinny no bass.

Used mainly for error beeps, or whatever sound they can output when another sound device isnt present, which isnt much..... and it sounds awful......

Most motherboards, including current ones have speaker pins as part of the front panel pin section.... *you know where you plug in the power on connector*

I only want it for OS sounds really. I have a £1,000 set of speakers for my pc-> music needs :) But obviously if I am listening to a CD I cant hear other sounds so thought this would be a good set up :)
