Hey all, Just trying to find out why my computer has decided to no longer fully shut down. Instead now when I go start>shutdown it will shut down all of my apps etc, then just hang on the 'Windows is shutting down' screen and stay that way indefinately.
I've been using the power buttin to kill it but tis getting a little annoying. I havent installed any odd apps that I know of, and i've scanned with AVG and it shows no odditys, though I was messing about with the start menu and local services list so that I could stop my bluesoleil bluetooth jobby from loading on startup. Hmm, I might have stopped the wrong thing! :(. Any help would be greatly appreciated :).

are you using avast?

apparently there is a problem with is sometimes. I had it at first but now it has gone.

have you installed anything recently, programs or drivers?

Don't know if it'll apply in this situation, but on my old machine i had the same issue. From what i remember, i had to go into control panel, then from there i 'think' it was power options. I had to enable a feature in there. Soz i can't be more help, this was aggggeessss ago......

for the record, i'm sure you've noticed yourself, bluesolil is a shambles!

get yourself an msi dongle, its like a 20kb inf file to install, and xp has the rest!

You've used bluesoleil then ;) :D .

Have you scanned it with Adaware and spybot to check for spyware? Both are free, just make sure you update them before running them.

I have indeed, twas the first thing I tried, also given regvac a go, but no dice.

are you using avast?

Nope dude. And i've instaleld quite a lot of things recently really. It was a fresh XP install :(, updated to sp2 and then ive installed about a million VST plugins (midi instrument musicy things), lots of video/sound/photo editing apps and Steam, a few other games, well really too much to remember (as many things will have been installed and then deleted).

Bumemr.. Is there a way of saving or checking the actions of the computer in a log file?. And might that tell me why/where it's hanging?. :D

start, run, eventvwr

try insatlling windows updates, quite a few of them resolve shutdown issues..

are you the same benny/benneh i used to play cs with? (cky2k here) :)

edit -how long have you tried leaving it for? does it help if you do a logoff first, then shutdown from there?

I think I did play cs with you dude :).
And I havent tried logging off, i'll give it a shot now. As for leaving it alone after shutting down, it just stays on.. Well, have tested as far as 2 hours (by accident) and no joy.

does it shut down ok when you go in in safe mode?

-tap F8 before windows startup begins (just after bios screen) and choose safemode

could be a hardware/driver or software issue
