Hi,

i bought a 360 game on an online marketplace on 26 Feb, for delivery within 2-3 days.

My gut instinct is telling me this guy is dodgy, perhaps didn't post the item, but something doesn't seem right. What do you all think, here's how it goes:

After not having received the item, i contact the seller. He states the item was posted on 28 Feb, so I wait a bit longer. Contact him again, get the same email stating it was posted 28 Feb.

Again I wait, now about 1.5 week going 2 weeks after my first contact, still nothing. I contact the seller again, asking what's happening, i get the following reply from a different email address, but same sender's name:

hi
I will look into it asap as i work for royal mails invtestigation bureau the I.B which tracks lost and stolen mail this may take few days .
regards

A bit later, going 2.5 weeks now, I ask for a status update, to find out what (if) the seller is doing to resolve this, i get the following email, from a completely different name and email address:

Hi I told you would take a few days to sort out ok its all in hand but cant do anything until royal mail head office get back to me plus I need to speak to your local postman and d o office .

I wiil refund your cash when iu fine what has happened to your game iam very this has happened buts it not my doing

reagrds

Finally, after 3.5 weeks or more, i have now given up on this guy and made a claim under the safe buying guarantee on that marketplace and stated the facts. They refunded me the money straight away. I did receive another email from the Seller today:

why are you make tails up so you can get a refund .
i will refund your when i have proof the game was lost in the post ok and untill lthen how do i know you have not got the game and your just trying to rip me off.
and far as email go was my own email address and my girl friends weail address at reply to ok.
so making out to be con man.
if wish to take this futher with me my number is xxxxxxxxxxx

I left him a poor feedback rating with my comments that the item was never received and the seller didn't resolve the problem.

I dont use online market places as a similar thing happened to me twie, paid for items, got no contact from seller and no product, so got my money back. I cant stand it when they dont reply in fluent english or miss words out etc etc, makes themself look dodgey. My 2 cents are that he's just trying to prolong it so you either give up or forget about it.

The thing I don't get, if he says he works for the royal mail bureau of investigations, then why is it taking him over 3 weeks to investigate this and get any result?

Also using different email addresses and names doesn't help. I bought quite a lot of other items from the same marketplace, all successfully delivered and happy with.

Chances are he was chatting brown stuff about working for RM.

The marketplace can be good for those of us who are lucky, ive just been put off it, lol, I get my friends to use their accounts and i pay them if i want something from the marketplace.

If he used standard or recorded post royal mail won't have any tracking and won't accept it is lost (so he could claim) until 20 working days.

As far as I know anyway.

So if your friends do you a favour and order something for you but it doesn't turn up then do you pay them? Or do you refuse to pay them if they get scammed?

True, I would have given him the few days he claimed he needed to look into it.

fini

I gave him more than a few days, in fact I have him a few weeks!

At some point, what I think is best for a Seller is to just refund the buyer and then sort out your claim with the postage company yourself.

If someone I come in contact with over the net has English that poor I instantly brand them a scammer and very little will then convince me otherwise. I don't use any online marketplaces though, they just seem to be more hassle than they're worth.

In fact, i'm getting my money back from the marketplace. If he indeed works for I.B. (as he said) i'm sure he will be able to get his money back on way or the other. He pays the marketplace back. I can order another copy of the game. Problem sorted, everyone happy?

Lol, he can't even string together a decent sentance!

sentence ! :p

I will always by my goods from shops never off someone else.

Unless it's a hand to hand transaction.

Not a con, just an extremely poor seller in my opinion. Maybe there is more to it from his side, all that matters is that you have your refund so can purchase your game elsewhere. Let him get on with it.

I pay them when I get my goods. They understand that, and I hardley buy stuff from the marketplace anyway. I tend not to get them to buy things from obvious scammers.

Poor - that's how i rated him on the site. I was thinking of emailing him telling him this is nothing personal and if he wants to, I can write a statement that i have not received the item, to help him claim his money back. But on second thoughts, I've decided to let him get on and perhaps learn from his experiences...
