Concerned about my U2711?

Basically, the only worry is that I can gently push the top of panel into the frame for what feels like 3-4 mm. It really takes almost no force at all to push it.

Is this normal? I don't have a habit of pushing computer screens so I wouldn't know ): It doesn't feel right though, seems like shoddy manufacturing but I can't tell because I've never tried pushing the screen before.

Could just be a poor example, I wouldn't say that would normal. Dells warranty is excellent so if you are concerned just phone up and get it replaced. They do next working day doorstep collections so it isn't any hassle as long as someone is in.

Do young mean you apply pressure to the actual panel where the picture is displayed? I'll have a try

Wasn't expecting that, yeah the actual plastic screen pops in with the slightest pressure.

It's normal for large IPS monitors, probably to allow for thermal expansion/contraction of the panel as suggested above. :)

I wouldn't keep pushing at it so see how far it'll move though...

my 3011 moves a little bit when i do the same, but not that much. how long have you owned the monitor?

True but 3-4mm is quite a bit, as per Rich my U3011 moves a little but not that much. I notice it when cleaning the screen.

I am probably exaggerating, it was likely a bit less.

Also thanks everyone, those answers are very informative and I'm glad I didn't just get a crappy screen or damage it inadvertently.

Could you refer me to a source that explains this?

No, I can't to be honest (not that I've looked very hard), hence my use of the qualifier "probably". :p

The issue does come up again and again on tech forums though, frequently enough to suggest that it's a deliberate "feature" rather than any kind of defect. The expansion/contraction theory seems pretty logical (hard to think of another explanation) , but if anyone knows different I'm all ears.

Same here, there's slight movement on my U2711 also.

I'm not worried though, the monitor has been working fine for 6 months and I know from previous experience Dell's RMA process is good so unless it develops a fault I'd say there's no reason for you to worry about it either.
