Concrete post fixings (from the side)

Now I'd have thought this was a very very common piece of DIY, yet I cannot seem to find the right part or info that should be readily available. Imo.

I require to attach a fence perpendicular to my/neighbours driveway fence.

I have two choices, dig in another concrete fence post next to the ones in our driveway or use a fixing bracket and drill into the existing posts.

This seems to be a point of contention as either I will struggle to drill into reinforced concrete ( plus I have to get permission from the neighbour to do so) or there seems to be only one clamp bracket on the market, called Postfix clamp.

Plus I would like use concrete gravel boards but theses will have nothing to slot into.
It's looking like putting in another post is the best solution but also the most complicated time consuming.

Anyone done something similar and knows the best way to go about it?

Tricky.
ideally you want to remove the post the neighbour already has and replace with one that also has the groove on the side you need.

If you start digging down right next to his post your likely to disturb its foundation.

I would definately have a discussion with them before doing anything else. They may be willing to allow you to get the post changed.

Does the old post have 3 vertical slots?

take the old post out and put a new one in that's what I would do.

if this can't work then perhaps you could get a nice bit of OSB board and use the vertical slots and wood to join it all up!

Id probably just drill into side and screw a wooden batten into it, then screw my fence panel into that. If that doesnt seem strong enough then Id probably do the second post thing too.

That's what I was thinking. Alternatively, replace the post with a 3-way post.

Regardless, you need to run this by the neighbour.

Drilling concrete posts usually breaks big bits off them, I get permission from the neighbours & replace it with one more suitable

Could you use some cranked (Z) brackets either side of your fence panel to 'grab' the concrete post without doing any damage?
Andi.

I couldn't find a multi directional post. I had assumed it would 4 way, which seemed not to exist. I think a chat with the neighbours and a 3 way one is perfect. Hopefully she won't be to much hassle but I don't know her well as she's an agoraphobic.

I've been considering my options regarding putting up some garden trellis on a shared fence and these may be the answer. I've ordered a set to see what they're like. Thanks for posting! ;)

They do come in different sizes. The ones I posted were 4in x 4in. Does that suit your needs as you'd have to buy the correct size.
