Condensation on windows... Anything better than a shammy?

So one of my morning (winter) jobs is to go around the upstairs windows and wipe away any condensation off the windows (& frames).

Anyone suggest anything better than a shammy? Surely there must be something than you can just run over it and it just absorbs it all nice and easily?

Get some decent windows with a warm edge spacer bar :p

you can get moisture absorbing gel that comes in a little box and sits in the window sill

TA DAA!! just need to empty them/replace gel or they overflow :)

It's already filled inside the spacer bar, it's called desiccant.

The problem here is that the outside cold is transferred to the glass via the aluminium spacer bar, so when it meets the inside warmth it forms condensation.

You could try something like Rain X Anti Fog. Worked very well on my bathroom mirror, completely preventing condensation.

It is however a bit of a chore to apply and leaves a smudgeable coating you'll need to buff up if you touch it.

Got all new windows upstairs. One from 2yrs ago which is aluminium, and all the rest from 2 weeks ago which are PVC.

The PVC ones seem the best, with just a little condensation around the lower edges of the glass. The aluminium is not so good, with the frame contributing to the moisture.

Same problem in our flat, all of the windows have aluminium frames... and theres a whole lot of em!

TBH, A chamois still hasn't been beaten for absorbtion imo. Though I do use a synthetic Autoglym one rather than a proper one. The proper one works better on my car, but the synthetic soaks up more water.

Dehumidifier....

Yeh, my parents used to have one, but TBH for a bit of hassle going around in the mornings with a cloth, I wouldn't warrant the cost and noise...

I've just ordered a super duper absorbant micro fibre cloth... So we'll see if it's better than a shammy...

This. You don't want a high level of moisture in the house anyhow. It leads to mould.

Modern dehumidifers are near silent and only draw 200w or so in operation. Worth doing, getting one made a massive difference to the comfort in my house during winter. Everything feels warmer and it's nice to wake up to clear windows even on wet days.

Well, we only get a bit of condensaton, in winter, around the outside of the windows... We're not exactly drowing :)

I'm happy to wipe around the glass on a couple of windows over winter to save all that dosh :)

Use a window wiper the sort that window cleaners use to do the out side, use a towel for the water that ends up at the bottom. Leave the windows open for 5 minutes all done.
