Hi everyone!

I was thinking of getting a synology NAS drive but decided that I prefered the option of adding in another hdd without having to fork out for another nas or spend a stupid amount of money on a NAS that has room for extra drives. So I've got an old PC that I'm going to use instead (to do other things with too lol, not just NAS:p)

One of the amazing features of the synology's is that it manages to somehow redirect any file downloads to itself:D Does anyone know of a way that this can be replicated on a PC?

Cheers,

If I am understanding this right you want to divert all downloads to this old PC.

If this is true...

Could you just make the download drive(s) a mapped network drives on your pc and get all download programs including Firefox to save all files on that drive? Or is that not what you want?

I think he's talking about the download director. You can start the download on your local machine and when you switch it off the download will continue saving to the nas drive. Most have built in bit torrent client capability too. Not sure how you'd do it on a standard box, though I'm sure it must be possible.
