Configure router for Nintendo WiFi access

Does anyone know if there are any specific settings I need to use to use my Nintendo DS over the internet (Mario Kart)? My router is a WGR514v5 if it helps? :confused:

I thought you couldn't play over the internet, only DS to DS?

Have you set up a WEP code? If so enter it into the DS wifi settings.
I don't think there are any other settings you need to change.

I thought you could only use the special Nintendo wireless dongle, am I wrong?

The dongle is only if you dont have a Wifi router, and it plugs in by USB to give you an wifi access point.

My brother has a wireless dongle and plays with his DS over the net, quite neat really and no xbox live subscription fees

Had trouble with this too at first.

You must use WEP for security on the router, seems the DS doesn't support anything else (I had WPA on). After that it should work fine when you put the codes in.

Well I turned off security entirely when I got Mario Kart as I couldn't be bothered with it. I trust my neighbours and they trust us so hopefully nothing will happen (they have unprotected networks as well). I managed to get better connections with my DS by turning off the firewall on my router.
