I have flashed my WRT54G to DD-WRT to allow me to use QOS, I cannot, howver, access the internet from the modem, I have a speedtouch 510 adsl modem plugged in, I believe there is some stuff I need to configure, but not sure which :/

any ideas on what to try?

I'm not familiar with that exact modem, but I do have a WRT54GL which alternates between DD-WRT v24 (out this week - update if you are using the old v23!) and Tomato. You essentially need to set the ADSL modem into "half-bridge mode". Check the 510's webUI to see if it has one, and/or Google it.

Worst comes to the worst, the Linksys AM200 works fantastically well with the WRT54G/GL and OCUK have it in cheap. I gained 1.5 Mbps on my SYNC and a good meg of extra throughput when I switched to the AM200! :D

Either way once you have a modem in half-bridge mode, it will pass on your WAN (public) IP to the WRT. Set the WRT to DHCP mode in Setup, and apply the setting. You should be good to go after that :)

EDIT - Actually I'm on PPPoA, now I come to think of it. The above may not entirely apply o PPPoE. Who is your ISP and how do you connect (PPPoA/E)? If you're on PPPoE you might be able to fully bridge the ADSL modem and set the WRT/DD-WRT to log in via PPPoE rather than DCHP.

Tomato's fantastic, no doubt! It's also much faster gui-wise than DD-WRT. THAT SAID, the DD-WRT's latest (v24) released this week has some NICE new features. It has all the bandwidth monitoring features of Tomato (and more) plus some nice logging.

Check it out mate :D
