Confirm my suspisions

In BF4, i know its just the beta BUT... I guess it just highlights my problem.

See image in spoiler... My CPU is maxing out 90-100% and my GPU's peak about 50-55% and no matter what the game settings are i get 30-40 very choppy FPS. (autos to ultra and some high...?!)

All this means im CPU bottlenecked right...?

Currently running -
AMD (960T) unlocked to 1600T x6 @ 3.8 In a Sabertooth Rev1
HT 2400
CPU-NB 2600
1600 8-8-8-24
2x Asus DCII 6950
TX750
Vertex 4

Your CPU is the bottleneck, however, I'd wait until the release to gauge performance.

A few more optimisations and bug fixes will be ironed out come official release time. Also future patches will add to the performance as these days games are released with many issues outstanding.

Do you reckon dice also run auto-error reporting software in the background which is why it hammers my (granted 2 gens' old) CPU?

Do we know anything about SR yet? Some places say this year/others next not much point in getting a PD now surely...?

Kaveri (SR upto 4 cores, no L3 cache) could be this quarter, or next quarter (2014 Q1).
The Piledriver replacement, well, it's all up in the air as to when it's coming, or in what shape or form.

Yeah with no news yet I would imagine it wont be till Q2 2014 or later which is a shame as it would be a great time to introduce the SR 8 core.

Leaving it till Q2 2014 would be foolish for SR, Cat's mentioned rumours about them skipping to Excavator (Which leaving to Q2 would make sense)

Excavator would be nice but surely that will be on a new socket?

Either way waiting that long is a long time for an upgrade.

Three rumours seem to exist:

Steamroller is coming to AM3+, and will be the last for that platform.

Steamroller is not coming to AM3+. New socket, plus DDR4 memory for the next 8 core platform.

AMD won't be releasing any more 8 core desktop CPUs.

The last I don't think is feasible, given the consoles and Mantle.

There's not much chance of them not releasing an 8 core, merely how and when it'll arrive to be honest.

I think the problem for desktop "performance" category AMD chips (AKA AM3+) is that they are server derived parts. AMD server market for big CPUs has shrunk to next to nothing, all the revenue is coming from APUs, chipsets and GPUs. There's little incentive or R&D money left to take on Intel in the CPU stakes.

They may fast forward to EX to cut their losses, but I'd expect that to align with DDR4 mass production (and AM4)

Just to add my q9550 at 4ghz is a great match with my 6950 in bf3.

bf4 is a different matter its a mess but i would hope there is a lot of improvements to come (or a pay rise at work .... )

My old X6 1055t and 6950 were great in BF3 as well

Oh in BF3 i get constant 60's on the v-sync with ultra & 2X AA... 4 absolutely kills me!

I even booted 3 up just to check all was well! haha

Yeah, just checked it - the 83 is almost the same price as the 63!

i have a 6300, but havnt tried it on bf4 yet, still awaiting my net to be installed (monday 7th ).
if my 6300 cant cut it with my 7850, both are going to be clocked as high as they can go.

i will be selling of my 6300 and getting a 8320 and possibly another 7850.

but i cant say anything untill monday or tuesday

If you can fit it on your motherboard, get an FX8320 or FX8350. For ~£140 the 8350 is great value for money. Bought mine yesterday upgrading from a T1090 that was OC @ 4.2Ghz
