Apologies for asking a stupid question, but just want clarification.

Just read the sandybridge OC sticky, and it says at the bottom, quoting

"Your warranty is un-affected and we will honor any CPU's that die, we just won't ask questions as to how you killed them. "

so this means if i blow it up, i can get replacement under warranty? I got the i5 2500k with 3 years.

changed my mind about oc'ing my 2500k, and was going to run stock this time round, but if that is true, i'd be tempted to try a mild oc.

As they've written/said it it's true - as long as you don't detail why your chip blew at a gazzillion volts you should be fine (within reason).

Plus it's the reason the K series was released - to be overlocked/voltaged so it will have a higher 'expcted' casualty record than the stock release...

But it wont really apply to you as a mild overclock (i'm assuming under 4.2GHz) wont really stress the chip at all.

Not heard of Intel denying warranty ever, they even asked a friend specifically what overclocking volts killed a particular chip as they wanted to examine it (this is the story i'm told, hes not one to fib much and pretty much told them he blew it lol), this was a retail early QX9650.

and lets face it an i5 2500k or i7 2600k at 4.0-4.2 GHz is plenty fast enough for 99.9% of people.

many thanks for clarifiying that for me.

gonna go have a tinker then! I do love overclocking, but i was gonna be sensible with this rig, thats now out the window! Think ill shoot for 4.0-4.2Ghz and see what happens.
