***Confirmed*** Games that work with Windows 7!

These are the games i've tried so far and are working with Win 7 x64...

Left 4 Dead
UT2004
Flatout 2 - keeps crashing, running in Vista compatibility mode seems to fix it.
Half life 2

Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix

Works in Win7 with Win XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, the latest and greatest Nvidia 190.07 doesn't work though, you will need to use an older driver for the game to work.

The Braid demo works through Steam if you right click on Steam and say "Run as Administrator" - if you don't then you just get met with a black screen and a loading cursor

Windows 7 64-Bit

SYSTEM SHOCK 2

Will not even install due to a DX 6.1 issue on W7 - this may be old news I appreciate as I imagine this occurs in Vista

THIEF 3

Installs fine but my mouse pointer will not move on screen title pages however the actual game seems ok. Could be my graphics driver although its WHQL on 8800GTX

System Shock 2 does install in Vista and plays but there is a lot of faffing around you have to do. I remember you have to set affinity to one cpu for a start, after that I can't remember! I'll have a look later..

ok mate - would love to know as i am dying to play this again but popping ito XP everytime will be a pain.

I tried Crysis on Windows 7 64-bit, but the only thing I get is a black screen. :X

I'm having puzzling problems with games. Vanilla 64-bit install, latest 64-bit drivers for my 260GTX, all updates applied (inc DX), but the first thing I installed --the Resident Evil Benchmark demo -- goes straight to 'black screen' in both dx9 and dx10 modes. You can hear the demo running, but a few seconds later it pops me back to the desktop. I can alt-tab back to it for a few seconds, hear that it's running ok, then it kicks me back to desktop again.

Installing the Race On demo via Steam works fine, no issues at all. Then I tried Far Cry 2. If I run the 'Benchmark' it works fine, with full screen replay. But if I just run the game it goes to black screen mode... though later on I got it to work in an annoying window by running it in safe mode (right click on the icon).

There are other reports of this via Google, but no concrete methods for overcoming it. I gave up in the end and rebooted to XP for some gaming. Everything else has gone remarkably smoothly with that test install, so I was a bit disappointed to meet this puzzling situation.

Oh well, I always did say wait for SP1 before buying any OS... if only because by then the web is full of people who've beta tested solutions to just about every imaginable issue which might crop up :-) This time though I was lured in by the discounted price though. And to be fair the general install experience was remarkably painless.

I'm sure we'll soon get a definitive answer to this, just maybe not today. Or this week. :->
