hi ya again, I am wondering if there is a website that will explain to me the different in power between a p4 process and a Intel Core™ Duo Processor, in a picture form or graph if ya get what I mean. So that I can compare because all these different types of process confuses me.

Such as for example what is a p4 equal to in Intel Core™ Duo Processor Power?

i am thinking about getting a Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 1.83Ghz or some thing of a simlar speed. so what would that compaire to a p4

not sure if this help but i am wanting to get a laptop with this in.

Thx in advace for the help

Conroe is a Core 2 Duo CPU. its just mostly people call them Conroe.

p4 gets beaten by the Athlon 64... A64 loses to Conroe, hence Conroe will stamp on the P4...

Due 2 Core.......

Acutally its "Core 2 Duo".

Dont confuse it with Core Duo, thats the older 32bit processor. Core 2 Duo is a major step up from Core Duo.

The Desktop processors you will be wanting to buy are the 'E6xxx' Core 2 Duo's, and they stomp all over P4's even the 1.83Ghz Core 2 Duo appears to be faster in games than a 3.73Ghz PD 965, although if you want to beat the 965 in every benchmark, then a 2.13Ghz or faster chip is better.

2.4Ghz or above to beat AMD's fastest offerings.

The 'engineering samples' overclocked very well. Hopefully the B2 steppings that will be shipped as the retail versions will be just as good.

The 'Laptop' versions of Core 2 Duo (codename Merom) will be released in August, these will perform very close to the desktop Conroes, and should be a much better buy than Core Duo.. so if you can wait until august you'll have a much better laptop, and one that would be able to run 64bit Vista if you ever want it.

There's a good chance they'll be the best clockers by the sounds of things.

ok the laptop that i was thinking of getting was a SONY - INTEL CORE DUO T2500 PROCESSOR 2.0GHz LAPTOP which i am guessing is the old core duo therefore will be out of date when the CORE DUO 2, does that mean i should wait till august. and sony will bring out a new range and either i can get the new one, or stick with SONY - INTEL CORE DUO T2500 PROCESSOR 2.0GHz LAPTOP but it will be cheaper

I would imagine that Sony will bring out a Core 2 Duo laptop in august when the new chips come out. I believe they are around 25% faster clock for clock compared to Core Duo, use same or less power, and are 64bit compatible.

Personally I'd wait till august and then see what the new models offer.

As you say, the Core Duo will probably be sold off at discount prices once Core 2 Duo laptops are released, so yeah, you can go for the new model, or get a good bargain on the 'old' model at that time.

You should wait only if you have the money! I would imagine a brand spanking new Sony laptop with a Merom CPU will cost an arm and a leg!

I imagine that even with the new model's coming soon, the Core Duo is still the current 'top of the range' Sony Laptop, and im sure it costs an arm and a leg anyway.

When Core2 Viao's come out there will probably be some discounted Core Duo models for sale.
