Ok I really have missed a lot since my last upgrade and now I'm in a lonely room on my own trying to guess what the hell it all means. Excuse my simple minded efforts but can some on eplease answer the following.

Gainward GeForce 7900GT 512MB DDR3 PCIE DUAL DVI G/SAMPLE - The power connector into this card - is it a special connector - not the normal molex off a psu.

This then leads me to the next question which may get my post moved.

I can buy converters for the connecters on my current psu, but should i just plum for a new psu. - Antec TPII- 480P Blue GB??

The connectors on gfx cards are molex's, it's the same on my 6800le, I think it's the same with the Geforce7 series and X1xxx series.

I had some confusion over this... but I think Fenderbass is right on this one

You need one of these for a PCI-E card :- PCI Express 6 Pin to 4 Pin Power cable adaptor for PCI-E Graphics Cards.

Which you can get from here (8th one down.). :)

No need for a new PSU, not if you already have a decent one, just use these adapters, its all i use, but you should get the PCI-E adapter in the box with the card anyway so you don't need to buy one.

Washington eh, just down the road from me, im in Philadelphia, Houghton-Le-Spring way. :D

I'm fairly sure that the connector that you need is a 6pin PCI-E connector not the older 4pin molex as used for hard drives etc but as long as the graphics card you buy is retail boxed it should come with the adapter you need. It normally takes 2x 4pin molex plugs to make 1 PCI-E 6 pin plug.

They are NOT molex comnnectors, but special 6 pin PCIe connectors that are only used on the high end PCIe graphics cards. Most cards usually include an adaptor whereby you can plug 2 seperate (i.e. not on the same lead) molex connectors into one end, and the other end has the 6 pin PCIe connector. I take it you do have a PCIe motherboard, or are intending to get one?

the plug going into the video card is a six pin plug, coming off the PSU. decent modern PSU's will have 1 or 2 of these but you can get a cable which converts the standard 4 pin molex to this 6 pin plug.

Is that houghton fatfield or proper hougton durham. Work just round the corner in durham... small world lol....

Anyway back to point, I dont have 2 spare molex, well at leats i dont think i have. Does it have to be 2 seperate leads on their own (as in not using a splitter).

if its the choice between getting away with and ordering a new psu what would you do? I can always flog my old psu on MM.

I've looked at the antec true power ones, it lists that they have 4 sata connecters, am i to assume that it will also have the regular amount of molex ones awell (normally 4).

these converter cables are usually splitters too, so you could have as many as you need.

Dunno bout the Antec PSU, but my Hiper Type R 580W rocks! :D silent and its got funky detachable cables - so only the cables I need are attached.
