Hey everyone,

I am a bit confused about which RAM to buy. I am going to purchase this: ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard [990FX PROFESSIONAL]

I have had a look at the memory compatibility list on ASRocks' website but unable to determine which to buy. The whole thing just confuses me, which RAM modules would you recommend for this board?

Thanks!

edit: Forgot to add, I'm only looking for 8GB. I have Patriot Signature series memory in my currant set up, I am assuming that it isn't great?

I've always thought Patriot produced good memory, what's wrong with your current RAM, not 8GB?

Just curious, what is your current rig and why are you buying the motherboard? Going with Piledriver?

Thanks for your replies.

I currently have FX-8150 Black Edition, no plans for Piledriver at the minute.
Motherboard is an ASUS M5A78LM/USB3, it's not the best motherboard as I can not overclock the processor due to the motherboard overheating and throttling the processor.

I'll double check the model number of my ram shortly to see what peoples opinions are on it.
I would just like a new motherboard to be able to overclock the processor.
Do you reckon I'm going too far buying this motherboard or shall I go for something cheaper? Mainly use the PC for gaming.

Have you read reviews about how the boards overclock? I prefer the look of the Sabertooth 990FX, the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5, MSI 990FXA-GD80. Nothing against the Asrock but I'd rather have a Gigabyte myself. :D http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-347-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046 Is on offer too.

Review I seen compares it to the MSI, says it brings more features but MSI has more overclocking options, doesn't necessarily mean the MSI will clock higher though.

This would be my choice, has good reviews and overclocking, but also looks fantastic, I love the cooling on it.

Tbh, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these boards, the ASrock looks really good, only thing I don't like is the odd old PCI placement, would be so close to graphics card. :p

Still haven't bought a board now, was going to go for Asrock but now that you have mentioned others, I will do a bit more research before buying anything.

I was actually looking at the UD5 and Sabertooth too, why do there have to be so many good boards? I am indecisive as it is, might just put the names in a hat and see what comes out lol.

I'll have a think about it over the weekend, do you think my patriot signature series ram should work okay with these boards? Still need to find out the model number, been busy!
