What is the sweet spot when it comes to memory, I see CAS Latency and ram speed being discussed but I am finding it difficult to decide which is the best ram to get in terms of performance.

Does it matter which CPU you have when looking at ram? I think it does from what I can tell from reading into it.

Apparently anything over 3400mhz is diminishing returns.

I will be buying a 5900x cpu.

3200mhz to 3600mhz offers the best value to performance, tighter timings may get you a few more fps but at a big cost.

32gb 3600mhz would be my choice

I was just watching some benchmarks between those two and it shows that the 3600mhz out performs by 4-10fps.

I think any tests would need to be at the same timings as well. Or it could well be the timing not the mhz making a difference.

Ive been trying to learn a bit as going Ryzen for first time. Ive been told on here, and by mickyflinn, to keep my 3200 as it has better timings than most of the 3600 kits about now. So ill be reusing my ram to start at least, and seeing how it goes. Whilst ive no problem buying new ram, unless I go crazy 3800+, I dont think its going to get me much improvement.
Also going 5900X

Thanks for your input.

Thank you for your input, helps a lot :)

Timmings are important when looking at benchmarks , and waying up the cost of the tighter timings ram.

Example 3600mhz with c18 timings cost £150 and 3600nhz ram c16 timings £200 that's a 33% increase in cost.

Depending on which gpu you may increase your fps by 3%. To 5%.

Is it worth it ?

The gap should be a lot lower for games than benchmarks, some games don't improve that much and some do, but higher res like at 4k the gap shrinks even more.

We need more testing as at moment it is all over the place with certain reviews, look at HU and GN and I think linus did some too.

It all boils down to you is it worth it to you paying a lot more for a few frames.?

EDIT:- I would myself get a set for around £100 to 150 and instead paying £250+ put saving towards a better gpu.
