Hi all

I have a new game (Cities in Motion) which came on a CD and is just over 400mb when installed. The CD appears to contain the entire game installation data, but when I registered my key code in Steam, it set about downloading another 400MB of game files.

My question is, what the heck is the point of the game files coming on the CD if Steam simply re-downloads the whole thing? I'm just really confused by this.

Thanks

M.

You installed the CD version and the Steam version. Sounds normal to me. You should have either just used steam or just left the CD version installed.

Well part of the installation process was to login to Steam and enter the CD key, at which point it automatically started to download this 400mb worth of stuff with no way to play the same until it had been downloaded.

Here it is installing the game the first time around from the CD:

And then when installed, downloading and installing it again!

Are you sure it was only 400mb when you installed it initially? It's requirements are 2gb for disk space.

I'd have thought the download would just be patching to the latest version.

This happened to me before with Napoleon TW, It installed something like 20gb from the cd's then went straight to downloading another 20gb  I just stopped it but couldn't play the game.

I eventually did a fresh install of windows and wiped the hard drive to get rid of all the crap, It installed from the cd fine and has worked with no problems since.
