Confused as Hell...

Hi All,

Ok...looking to buy a new PC very soon £1000-£1500 budget
originally i was going for a AMD dual core somthing, but now i heard about the Intel conroe chip and im all undecided again? when will this be avalible in the UK and how much will it retail for and how quick will it be?

my system will be mainly for 3D and graphics work. but i need one that will handle everything i through at it.

suggestions plz, should i wait for the conroe or wait for some other stuff???

current specs with very rough budget for each

CPU £300
Gcard £300
Mboard £100 - £150
Ram 4gig at the least 2gig anyway £300 - £400
HDD seagate Barra 500gb x2 RAIDED £400
Targen 480W power supply allready bought

Please i am totaly at a loss because i dont want to buy somthing now and regret not waiting those extra 2 weeks for somthing better

Think you already know the answer to your dilemma.
If you can wait until conroe is out and see how it prices/performs.

Yeah, Conroe isn't going to be around till August time. If you need a new PC now, then go for an Opteron dual core. If you can wait, then wait for Conroe I guess.

Intel's Conroe appears to knock the socks off the FX60 for half the price, bloody good move on Intel's part if it's true. This won't be out for something like 3-4 months.

grrr thats to long for me...guess its a AMD then just my luck, still it will be a very good CPU.

about the other components any ideas?

Probably best to get a bare minimum of 500W PSU

I think the only major drawback with Conroe will be the overall system cost compared to an AMD. With mobo's and ram being nearly double the price and harder to get hold of!
