Confused by Tiger Woods 08

I've been playing a lot of Tiger Woods for the last couple of night and I'm really enjoying it. I'm a bit frustrated though, I'm trying to build up the skills of my character and I have lots of "potential skill" but I can't get the skill bars to actually fill up. I'm stuck as a rookie and at 17% and working on the Tiger Challenge.

What do I need to do to advance my skills?:confused:
 
I found doing the PGA tour put my skills up much quicker than doing Tiger Challenge, I just set it to 1 round per event, it soon goes up
 
I have all my stats maxed out from playing training and doing the Tiger Challenges, only when I'd done this could I compete in the Tournaments.

It's a shame the game for many people is broken meaning you cannot complete it (at the moment), it freezes on hole 16 of Carnoustie in 2 of the Tiger Challenges which blocks your path to completion.

I personally think it's a manufacturing problem (probably wrong) but I've had 2 brand new copies of the game disk which both had a perfect circular scratch/burn mark on them from sealed boxes. No other 360 game I've seen has it.

Over on the EA forums people are giving EA loads of abuse because they are supposed to be working on a patch to fix it. If it was a problem with the manufacturing of the disks I'm not sure a patch will fix it.

Anyone else had the same problem and do you have that mark on your disk?

I take it you have the x360 version of tiger woods?

Anyone here played the Wii version? its a trifle hard :D

Havent got that far yet im still getting to grips with it as its a lot harder than 07, well i think it is. It better not freeze on hole 16 or i wont be happy. It does look good though, quite a big improvement on 07 visually.
 
The 2 challenges are where you play Henrietta Brockway and the other is Michael Campbell (I think) and you only play the final few holes against them anyway, so it's not like you play nearly a full round before it freezes. I'm considering returning my (2nd) copy today.
 
I haven't had the freezing problems on those challenges. Have you tried clearing the cache when the game starts? EA claim that might help. It's worth a try I guess.
 
quick question also bout leveling up me and my dad use to play the season tournents against each other so we leveled up at same time but there doesnt seem as far as i can see the same function as this on 08 am i looking in wrong place? and you dont get enough exp on stroke match.

Do you have the circular burn mark on your disk? Both my copies did.

Yes, I've tried clearing the cache, unfortunately it hasn't worked for me.

Aside from that the game face website doesn't work and hasn't worked since release day. In this day and asge is unacceptable for such a poor release from a copany like EA. Other than that I've really enjoyed the game.
 
I'd have to check the disc, I'll ask my friend who has intermittent problems on those challenges if he has too.

Game face is still borken? Damn that's poor, I would have expected that to get sorted straight away :( We can only hope these problems get sorted quickly but is it EA being slow or MS holding things up before the patch gets released to Live?
 
has anyone else found it hard to hit the ball straight when they first started playing? am playing in the 2nd hardest difficultly and seem to slice and hook it everywhere - am a tad confused as 05 and 06 i could pretty much go round every course in at least 10 under par...! is 08 just a lot harder? if so good but also a little shocked!
 
I've just tried the game again and tried clearing the cache again as it didn't work last time and it worked, I was able to play the full skins challenge against Henrietta Brockway. Strange.

Well I'm slightly happier about it now.

Build your stats up and increase drive accuracy.

Yes the same here, im on the same difficulty as you as i mastered 07 really, and 08 seems very hard to hit it straight, i just use the old style swing methind as per 07 im not into the 3 click thing. Virtually every shot is a hook or slice.
 
Thanks for the advice chaps, I'm looking forward to moving my skills up and perhaps going online with my character. I bought the Live Vision wecam and took a photo, my wife is quite shocked at how similar the ingame model looks to me. She likes it when I make myself go round with no hair or with a big beard and wearing silly outfits.

Any fellow rookie players up for an online match at some point over the weekend?
 
I think I read you have to be a lot more accurate with pulling the stick straight back and through in this year's game, also the game face is working now! I stuck my ugly mug on there last night. It actually works quite well :)
 
Actually it still isn't working. I'm getting the same message I was a week ago, server limit exceeded.
 
I got the max connections exceeded first time I tried to log in, tried again 30 seconds later and it worked. I guess they haven't specced their servers very well to meet demand.

Keep trying, it is worth it and is actually quite quick once you get logged in.
