Confused! Connection Speeds for Server

Morning guys,

Just been looking into running a little UT2k4 server from home...W00T

Found some interesting, yet confusing info on good upload/download rates which has now got me completely confused :confused:

Basically, I've run the test at speedtest.net to london and it came back with 3652kbps d/l and 336kbps u/l. Can someone please give me a clue in as to what i'll be able to achieve with these speeds.

Probably a 6-8 man server.

Are you going to be running the stand alone server build on dedicated hardware or just piggybacking on the same box you are playing on ?

going to have a server box running ut2k4 and acting as a file server for myself (i have too many computers all with different versions of 'my docs'

) with a VERY low traffic web/mail server.

It will be fine for a few players as long as you understand you won't have very low latency...

You have your first ADSL hop to contend with, so players are looking at ~+20ms before you start. This means people will end up with a ping at least that much higher than a 'real' server.
