Hi,
I currently have a RP614v2 Netgear Router working fine.

But Id like to be able to use a couple of wireless devices on there.

I dont really want to splash out on a new router so is there any alternatives?

EG, plugging in an adapter into one of the ports maybe?

I really dont know and looking through the net just confused me :)

Please help people. Thanks a lot.

Hook up a wireless access point. Job done.

Ah, thanks.

Bit expensive though!

So, this plugs into one of the ports on the router. And in theory expands the current router to support Wifi?

Thanks

Pretty much. Have a look at the SMC Webt-G, it does the job fine and it's a decent price :).

Ok thanks a lot :)

Probably pick a second hand one up.

Just uno more question.

I notice there are four types:
802.11g
802.11g+
802.11b
802.11a

Which one should I get? Or are they all mostly supported?
Should I find out what band the devices work on first?

Thanks

802.11G is the most common, and it is backwards compatible with 802.11B (and is also compatible with G+ etc). 802.11A is incompatible with G and isn't very common, and most A adapters support G/B as well. :)

I managed to find a Netgear WGR614 for just under £30.

Its the same as what I have but with Wireless aswell.

I personally think this would be better then getting an access point fitted.
Similiar price.

The product is refurbished, but so is my current router and seems to be fine.

Should I go for it and sell my current router on the MM?

Thanks

If it ain't broke don't fix it tbh. His router works. There's many a problem with Netgear kit that contains a router and a wireless card.

Hmm. The only reason I thought of doing the above was to really save money.
A Wireless access point seems a lot of money.

Ill do a but more reading :)
Thanks
