When I bought my Nikon D90 I got a recommended SDHC card for it, a SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s SDHC 4GB card.

I want to get a 16GB card, but I'm confused now as there's so many different options? Class 6, Class 10, UHS-I, 45MB/s, 95MB/s etc etc...

If I'm correct this new UHS-I is relevent/supported on my D90 anyway?

Basically can someone give me an idea of what SDHC would be the ideal one to get? eg: A Sandisk xxxxxxx?

Class 10 card is probably more than fine (its about 20mbps transfer rate max) as I doubt the buffer on a D90 can clear itself that quickly regardless of the card anyway. I own a nikon D300s, which doesn't care how fast the memory cards are that I put into it in terms of clearing the buffer into memory. Seems that the hardware limits the camera more than the actual card transfer rate does.

Its strange as it made a massive difference on my 5D mk ii, but with this I can't tell the difference between a 16gb 60mbps CF card and a 16gb 20mbps SDHC one :S

But the card I bought year(s) ago is 30MB/s?

Thats why I said "about" as it varies massively between manufacturers in what class 10 actually means. Anything above 15mbps is regarded as class 10 by quite a few of the big brands like sandisk, with below that being class 6.

Its a veeeeery confusing market -.-

Still stands though, I highly doubt it'll matter as I doubt the camera's write speed to the cards is fast enough to make a difference over 20-30mbps anyway

personally i use scandisk extreme class 6 8gb card. from what i read scandisk seams to be the perferred choice of card as long as it class 6 or above as that is need for writing raw files to it. many forum i've visited, people have written how they used different brands and had problems with them but when they used the scandisk extreme they say it the most reliaible card they used and they stick to buying that brand.

Seems the only 16gb Sandisk card I can get is the "SanDisk Secure Digital High Capacity Card Extreme Video HD 16GB Class 10" for just over a tenner!? It's listed as 45MB/s.

What concerns me is next to the SDHC on the label is an "I". Wondering if this implies some new tech which the D90 doesn't employ!?

Used the transcend class 10 cards on my d90 for years. Never a problem and can be found for a great price on the big river

I always go for 4gig cards. Better than having all your eggs in one basket, so to speak.
I no see any point in buying small 4GB SDHC cards
when SanDisk Extreme 16GB Class 10 45MB/s SDHC cards are only £10 each now
or £8 for the SanDisk Ultra 16GB Class 10 SDHC card
