Hi,

Looking at this Samsung monitor it says it's LED ect, however when I google it all I seem to get is LCD results. Kinda confused as to what it actually is, and as a side note how do people think this monitor would do for gaming?

SAMSUNG BX2231

Thanks

LED is just the backlight type - the panel is still a standard LCD one.

With edge-lit LED panels like that samsung - the picture quality really isn't any better than a standard CCFL backlit screen with a similar good quality TN LCD panel. The main benefits with edge-lit LED screens is low power usage and a slim profile. Also, the dynamic contrast ratio number is meaningless - just something they make up, the real static number is ~1000:1, just like all TN LCD panels.

Have a read here and here for some more info.

I am in the same position. Looking for a gaming monitor and not sure if the LED range is worth it. Great info here guys. Doesnt look like the cost difference between the two is justified.

In short, it makes FA difference to quality but LED lowers power consumption slightly(only really matters in bigger screens and there aren't many of those which use LED backlighting) and also makes it a bit thinner
