Hi, recently finished building my first pc and I bought a WGT624 wireless router+ WG311T card.

I have got the router installed and working ... but during installation I had to plug the blue cable in between the router and the pc (essentially meaning they are joined together by a metre long cable) ... the whole point I wanted to go wireless was to have my pc in a different room to my NTL point ... have I been totally stupid here - does this router need to be plugged into my pc by this cable all the time or once it is installed can the router stay in the room with the ntl poiint and my pc can move freely to another room and just connect wirelessly via the card??

My other problem is that I can't get the WG311T installed properly - the netgear wireless assistant keep crashing (wlancfg5.exe). Do I need the wireless router connected or turned off or something to install the card?

Please help!

Yes. Not that there's much installation required.

You shouldn't, though the software may take you through configuring the wireless adapter.

If the installation wizard keeps crashing just install the drivers via device manager and use windows wireless zero configuration. Also the "blue cable" is just for set up, you should be able to unplug it (assuming you have set up the wireless function properly)

That's good news thanks guys. Do I lose any functionality or sacrifice any security using the windows config utility or is it going to give me exactly the same result?
