Hi,

After years with my old macbook I decided that it is time for the proper upgrade. I lost touch with the PC world and I have simply no idea whats the current best value stuff.

PC will be mainly used for Pro Tools - so light music production, home recordings etc as well as light gaming - Diablo 3 in particular (don't laugh).

I assumed that ProTools will benefit from as fast CPU as I can afford and put together this wee monster. No graphic card. This can wait until next month I guess.

Thoughts? Shall I downgrade to i5? Will this weird m.2 socket SSD work? (I have no idea what is it:)

Thanks guys!

Hi,

That case only supports upto mATX sized boards and coolers need to be under 120mm in height.

Is it a small form factor PC you are wanting? or have you just got the wrong sized case?

ahh damn - my mistake. I would like small form indeed. is this any better? Its a draft really as im not sure which combination will be the best for the money. And I like this case a lot too:)

EDIT: forgot about the coolers height. Need to find an alternative.

16GB of ram is really the minimum you should have for any music production, I would also get an addition HDD to use as your scratch drive (dedicated audio drive) with protools, it should also be a minimum of 7200rpm otherwise your going to run into disk read / write issues

Faster RAM, Bigger SSD, Better Cooler, Cheaper (how did he manage that?) :)

Perfect! Thank you:)

Two questions:

- any reason for not using OEM version of i5-4690K?
- Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H mobo got "1 x CPU fan header and
1 x system fan header". Case have 3 fans. Will I be able to connect them all to this mobo? (apologies for stupid question. Its a long time since my last pc build)

Thanks

The OEM has a 1 year warranty vs 3 years of the retail version.

The OEM comes without a cooler or nice packaging.

The fans, hmm, you can get a fan splitter cable and run two fans of a single header.

Thinking about ATX build. I took all suggestions into consideration, added proper graphic card and this is what I came up with. Any issues with this build? (apart from the case being Pre order:) I also found HDD which I can use so no need for one.
