Hi,
I have a Asus radeon hd 7770, 1020/4600(1150mhz gddr5). I am using the latest ati catalyst drivers (instead of older card specific drivers), with no settings changed. My 3dMark11 score on clock settings is 3556 (expected).
I followed this article, http://www.overclock.net/t/633816/how-to-overclock-your-amd-ati-gpu, and acheived a stable overclock of 1160/5000, fan speed 65%, max temp <60 degrees. I went to 3dmark11 to see new score, it crashed within 1 second. Sometimes freezes and i get the "driver stopped responding and has recovered", other times freezes and a .dll error. I tried multiple times, keeping the memory clock at stock, and lowering the core. The more i reduced it, the longer 3dmark would run. I gave up at about 1090/4600. Also, msi afterburner does not apply the settings on restart.
I decided to start from scratch. Deleted msi after burner and am in middle of overclocking using catalyst, starting from stock again. Am currently stable at 1075/1160 and trying higher soon. The only setting i have changed is setting it to "high performance" (for oc to kick in)
Anyway, how come overclock software shows no artifacts at 100% and low temps at 1160/5000 yet doesnt last a second in real game terms? Is the software useless? Is there a known problem with 3dmark11? Should I use the manufacturer drivers?
Feel I wasted ages last night for nothing
