Confused with Intel

Hey everyone,

been out of building custom PCs for a while and I haven't kept up to date with everything. My brother-in-law would like me to build him a PC but im not sure if I should be going for the following:

Socket 2011 with an X79 M'board

or

Ivybridge 1155 with ??? M'board

Which is the better option and the best route?

what is he goin to use it for? gaming, encoding etc?

He will be using it for gaming and watching films on a 40" TV.

For that the Z77+3570K is the best option.
