Confused...

Hi..

I'm looking to upgrade my machine :

Intel E8400 (maybe an E8600) with Artic Freezer Pro,
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB),
ATI 4870

but I'm very confused about which motherboard to go for.

I've looked at the Asus P5Q Pro and now I notice a lot of "spec me" answers recommend abit motherboards.

I'm not into overclocking (I just want to plug it all together and use it with no hassle) and will use it for gaming mainly. So what is a good stable motherboard that will suit my chip choice and ram.

Any help to sort out my confused brain would really be appreciated.

thanks

P5Q is a superb motherboard and would be top of my list but an overkill if you are not overclocking. If you are not going to overclock then just go with any board that's within you budget. You can't go wrong with any Abit or Asus board tbh.

P5K Pro is a bargain for under £90..

Also, swap the memory for some CL4 PC2-6400 memory rather than the high frequency PC2-8500

personally i say

abit ip43 for low end

asus p5q range for mid - high end, non crossfire

x48 for crossfire (no specific range suggested)

790i for a good sli chipset (again no specific mb suggested)

Thanks Guys..

Ok.. so better option would be :

E8400
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Thanks again

Much appreciated
